WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking an Intern – Finance in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin office. This internship is full-time during the Summer of 2024 with the potential to work part-time during the academic year. The hourly rate for this position is $23.30 with paid company holidays.
Job Summary
We employ students for summer and year-round opportunities to help design creative cost effective systems and equipment that keep the energy flowing to our customers in a safe and reliable manner. WEC Energy Group offers a variety of finance opportunities for students seeking hands-on experience that are currently enrolled in a four-year degree program. Students work with experienced members of these functional teams.
As a finance intern you will have the opportunity to shadow and work on tasks related to accounting, forecasting and strategy.
Job Responsibilities
Finance – Business Support
- Assist with reporting and analysis
- Gain understanding of accruals, forecasting, and budgeting
- Develop organizational and planning skills
- Learn business support, strategy, and planning
Sales and Revenue Forecasting
- Assist in the development of long-term sales and revenue forecasts using regression-based and other models
- Support weather-normalization process and actual vs. forecast sales variance reporting
- Updating UI forecast system with revenue forecasts
- Assist in responding to data requests in regulatory proceedings and audits
- Support process improvement initiatives and create process documentation
- Run queries of billing data
- Work with departments across the company to ensure accuracy of data and validity of information
- Gain experience using the following systems: Business Warehouse reporting, utilities International forecast planning tool, OpenC customer service billing system, and Itron MetrixND (used to develop forecasting models)
Treasury
- Assist in SAP cash clearing (FEBAN)
- Gain understanding of account reconciliations
- Troubleshoot issues between SAP and the banks
- Participate in letter of credit and risk analysis
- Shadow SAP process reconciliation between OPEN-C and SAP
- The intern will learn SAP general ledger and Treasury Module, OpenC customer service billing system, how credit facilities work and how to analyze credit risk of counter parties.
Utility Margins
- Preparation of closing files and updating UI forecast system
- Participate in month end closing tasks and journal entries including account reconciliations
- Maintain monthly schedules and create process documents
- Tie out general ledger accounts to supporting documentation and run queries of billing data
- Learn SAP general ledger, business warehouse reporting, utilities International forecast planning tool and OpenC customer service billing system
Minimum Experience Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or HSED
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Business Administration or closely related field
- Minimum GPA of 2.8
